Email Scam Resource

I don’t have the time or resources to list specific companies or post emails involved in known scams. But I’ve found a website that does just that.
Scamdex has databases of scam emails and lists of fake companies that have been reported, and a forum where people can post scams they have discovered. It’s a good resource if you want to see some examples of what to look for.
But remember, scammers are like chameleons- they change constantly. When they are discovered, most simply get new websites, email addresses, and identities. So it’s wise to learn the “red flags” to look for in a scam as well.

Scamdex is an excellent resource if you are researching scams. Another good one is Snopes.
For the scambaiters, 419eater is well worth a look – lots of interesting stories and pictures.

i keep getting emails and calls from the website http://www.smallbizeworks.com/ asking me for my credit card number – i keep telling them i do not want to advertise on thier site, but they insist I won 12 months worth of advertising with a promotion they have , but they need my credit card in order to set up my account – does this seem like a scam?

Hi Mary,
It sounds pretty fishy to me. They should stop calling and emailing you if you tell them to. If they don’t, that’s even more reason to believe they are trying to scam you.

Just wanted to add that a quick investigation brought up no red flags about smallbizeworks.com. But I would still be leery of giving out my credit card number in your situation. It’s possible that the person who is requesting it is not even from that website, and either way they should not need your credit card number to set up free advertising.
